FEATURING SPECIAL GUEST POET: BEATRICE GARLAND
FLOOR SLOTS: Sign up at the door at 7 pm
LIVE MUSIC: SOUTH LAKES BRASS ENSEMBLE
MC: MARK CARSON
The evening’s poet is Beatrice Garland, poet and NHS clinician, researcher and teacher of psychological medicine who has, for the last twenty years, spent much of each day listening to other people’s worlds. She has found poetry to be a way of talking about how each of us sees, is touched by, grasps, and responds to our own different worlds and the people in them that satisfies the need for something personal and self-examining. Her collection 'The Invention of Fireworks' was published by Templar Poetry in 2013 and shortlisted for the 2014 Forward Prize for the best first collection.
The South Lakes Brass Ensemble, formed in 2014 by Kim Moore, consists of two trumpets, one cornet, one french horn, one tenor horn, one trombone and a tuba. In their other lives, the seven musicians who make up the group teach music, write poetry, manage animal rescue centres, volunteer at foodbanks, go to school or are busy retiring gracefully. Expect a variety of roof raising music.
All this, plus the unpredictability of the open mic and the quiet skills of MC Miark Carson, adds up to an easily accessible evening’s entertainment just off the A590.
Entry: £5 / £4
Time: 7:30pm
