Calling all double-act poets/rappers/MCs/comedians/spoken word artists.
We have an exciting opportunity for you to share the stage with a national headline act in J3, Cambridge Junction on Friday 29th May. Poetry is so often a solo endeavour, but Double will celebrate the art of collaboration. Featuring headline performers Loyle Carner and Rebel Kleff, who are storming the spoken word/hip hop scenes after supporting Kate Tempest on her latest national tour. Expect a fluid fusion of gritty hip-hop, poetry, and everything synonymous with spoken word.
We have six 10 minute slots up for grabs for poets aspiring to try something different to the same monthly open mics. There is only one rule – there must be at least two bodies on stage at all times during your performance. You can play with this idea as much as you like – being cheeky/daring will get you extra brownie points. If you are a solo poet, don’t think you’re automatically disqualified. Talk to that poet you really like at your local open mic and see if they want to work with you, blend your poetry with your boyfriend’s guitar playing, convince your colleague to do some spoken word karaoke, or send us an email anyway and we’ll play poet matchmaking with all solo entrants. It doesn’t have to be your own work, but you can’t be on your own. In Double, the word cannot exist without a conversation.
