The final meeting of The Works’ Canteen for this season will feature poets Brendan Hawthorne and Robert Francis.
Brendan is a co-founder of Poetry Wednesbury and, besides regularly performing at pubs, clubs and festivals, he’s also performed in Edwardian bandstands, on the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square, and in churches and shop doorways … and now he’s got a Works’ Canteen to add to the list! Hard-hitting, poignant and often hilarious, Brendan’s subjects range from factory gates via 1970's tower blocks to the survival of humour in modern times, writing either in standard English or his beloved Black Country dialect.
Also, we’ll be hearing from Robert Francis, poet and organiser of the Scary Canary spoken word nights in Stourbridge who, this month, will appear armed with an acoustic guitar. His poetry is fresh and heartfelt and his choice of songs is just as passionate.
The museum’s poet-in-residence Dave Reeves will act as compere, with his squeezebox slung over his shoulder, and there will be plenty of opportunity for people to book a spot and perform their own work.
Price: £3.00
Time: 7.00pm for 7.30
