WORD CLUB 8 will take place on Friday 28th August 2015, from 7.30 pm, at The Chemic Tavern, Leeds. Our headliners this month are Alsion Lock, Andy Humphrey and Tim Ellis, as well as the usual crew of ultra-talented open micers that would grace any Literary event!
Alison Lock has published two poetry collections, A Slither of Air, (2012) and most recently, Beyond Wings (2015), both published by Indigo Dreams Publishing Limited to wide acclaim. She was the Poet in Residence at The Holmfirth Literature Festival in 2013. Alison is also a prize winning short story writer. Her short story collection, Above the Parapet (2014) was long listed for the Edge Hill Prize. Alison’s novella, Maysun and the Wingfish will be published by Mother’s Milk in 2016.
Andy Humphrey is a prize winning poet based in York. His first collection, A Long Way to Fall was published by Lapwing Press in 2013. His pamphlet, Satires was published by Stairwell Books in 2015. Andy also blogs regularly on poetry matters and other issues at poets-soapbox.blogspot.co.uk. Andy has had over 50 poems published in a variety of magazines. He is the host and compere of Speaker’s Corner in York. Andy has also had many short stories published as A J Humphrey.
Tim Ellis is a prize winning poet based in Harrogate. Affectionately known as the Bird Bard, Tim’s first collection, Birds of the World in Colour was published by Flarestack Press in 2004. His second collection, Gringo on the Chicken Bus was published by Stairwell Books in 2011 and was voted one of the best 20 small press poetry collections of 2011. Tim’s most recent work is God the Banana (2015), an ambitious self-published verse novel consisting of 437 sonnets.
