Poetry at the Bar des Arts - Last Chance Saloon!

Always eclectic, the 1000 Monkeys represented by Dónall Dempsey and Jan Windle present special guests Zelda Chappel, whose collection "The Girl in the Dog-Tooth Check Coat" has just been published by Bare Fiction, and Owen Elton, who has been described as a one-man version of Flanders and Swann!

The Bar des Arts in Guildford is changing hands in October and this will be the 40th and last in the series of monthly open mics with guests that Dónall Dempsey and Jan Windle have been hosting there since 2012. With only a week's notice of the closure, we want to make this final night in this venue a party to celebrate three years of brilliant performances from talented poets, and the fun that we've enjoyed there in the last three years.

Zelda Chappel and Owen Elton are the night's two special guests. Zelda's collection, "The Girl in the Dog-Tooth Coat" was published in July by Bare Fiction. Owen is a song writer who has been described as a one-man Flanders and Swan. His show "The Funniest Number" was a hit at the Guildford Fringe Festival this year.

If you want to grab your last chance to read on the Bar des Arts' celebrated stage, in the footsteps of the likes of Bernard Kops, Robbie Auton, Chrys Salt, Mel Jones, Maggie Sawkins, Paul Sutherland and Robert Garnham, (to name just a few of the 100-plus, very varied list of professional poets and performers it's held) come and sign up before 7.30 and you're promised a place on the list of open mic readers.
