Open Mic Event

Festival is a spoken word night. It’s the summer you only dreamt of in the depths of winter.
It’s the place where strangers become friends.
We have been planning this for a long time.
Our aim is to create a stage that people are excited to walk onto.
We want our performers to be scared but only ever in a good way.
We want the kind of night that people stay up late writing and rehearsing for.
We want it to be the show we never planned.
We want all shapes and colours of spoken word.
We want your best words in your best voice.
4th October 2015
**** Open Mic ****
You are the most important thing. We’re not just saying that. Sign up at 19:30 for a slot. The night begins at 20:00 and it won't begin quietly. Slots are 5 minutes, first-come, first-served. This is a night for risks. Be brave. No extracts from your novel or works-in-progress, please. Best words, best voice.
****Jan Prior****
Jan writes about things which serve no purpose, like coffee and kissing and cake. Then she hits you with something that really matters. She is funny in the right places and angry in the right places and we are immensely proud to host her debut set.
****Stef Mo****
Stef is a man of strong opinions slathered in amiability and encased in creamy humour.
He does this thing when you are about a minute into one of his poems and you think ‘this is OK, I’ve got this’. And then he takes it in another direction. And another. Your brain gets twisted like how his brain is twisted, but slower. And you can’t stop smiling because it feels so good.
****Rafael Attar****
Part of the plan of Festival is to encourage a full circus of spoken word acts; page poets, slam poets, people who aren’t really poets doing strange theatrical pieces, people who mix spoken word and music, people who use visuals.
We know someone who does all of this at once, really, really well: Raphael Attar is coming to us from London and he’s bringing his cape and his clarinet. We are super-excited.
Entry: FREE
Time: Sign up at 7:30pm for a big 8pm start.
Note: Write Out Loud does its best to ensure the accuracy of event listings but can accept no liability or responsibility if it's just plain wrong.
