WORD CLUB 10 will take place on Friday 30th October 2015, from 7.30 pm, at The Chemic Tavern, Leeds. Our headliners this month are Clare Shaw and Becky Cherriman. We we also be having an Oltey Word Feast Press launch feature with shorter slots from Joanna Sedgwick, Jo Peters, Peter R White and myself. And we will be treated to poems by the usual crew of ultra-talented open micers that any literary event would be proud of too!
Clare Shaw has two Bloodaxe poetry collections - Straight Ahead (2006) and Head On (2012) - and a rage of other publications in poetry and non-fiction. She is a Royal Literary Fellow at Huddersfield University; and a regular tutor for the Poetry School, the Wordsworth Trust, The National Writer's Centre for Wales, and the Arvon Foundation - who describe her as "one of the country's most dynamic young poets." Clare also works as a mental health trainer, researcher and consultant.
Becky Cherriman is a writer, workshop leader and performer based in Leeds. Published on umbrellas (!) and by Mslexia, New Walk, Envoi, Mother’s Milk and Bloodaxe, she was resident poet for Morley Literature Festival in 2013 and recently published in Poets For Corbyn. A current collaboration is Haunt, an Imove commission. Becky's first pamphlet and collection are due out in 2016 with Mother’s Milk and Cinnamon Press respectively.
We are also pleased to include the official launch of four new pamphlets recently published by one the region’s hottest new poetry publishers, OWF Press. Jo Peters, Peter R White, Joanna Sedgwick and Mark Connors will be reading poems from their respective pamphlets.
Kick off will be at the slightly earlier time of 7.45 pm.
Friday 30th October 2015 from 7.30 pm.
And remember, the first rule of WORD CLUB is: WE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT WORD CLUB….SO SPREAD THE WORD!
