Guest Poets: Liv Barnes, Christopher Bainbridge, Colin Davies
She's the biggest thing to come out of Suckley in Worcestershire, mainly because she's the only person who's ever left. https://www.facebook.com/LivBpoetry
Chris Bainbridge is a Bury-based poet and political activist who has been performing on the north-west scene since 2012, although he has been writing since his teens back in the 1970s. Now in his fifties and a father and grandfather, his work reflects his experiences as a single parent, as well as his varied working life and his passion for political change. Chris has worked extensively in health and social care, but has also spent time as a deejay, has had an occasional foray into television game shows, and once roadied for Motorhead "by accident". Since returning to performing, Chris has appeared at numerous benefit and fundraising events. Highlights include performing at national demonstrations for CND at the atomic weapons establishment at Aldermaston in Berkshire. He has supported rock band Adventures of Salvador on some of their local gigs, and has appeared for four years running at the Glaston-BURY festival in his home town, the only non-music act to do so. Chris comperes at a monthly open mic music night in Bury. Chris describes his poetry as hard-hitting, instinctive and impulsive, which attempts to balance strong imagery and subject matter with a humour that is sometimes self- deprecating.
Colin Davies (1970-) was born in Brighton. At the age of 17 he moved to Blackpool where he embarked on a journey to become a successful and highly respected author, poet and playwright. His second novel for children, "Mathamagical II: Anagramaphobia - at word's end" is a 2015 Red Ribbon winner at the Wishing Shelf Book Awards. Colin's solo spoken word show "2001: A Space Ode and Ditty" was short-listed for the 2015 Saboteur show of the year award, placing third.
Colin lives with his partner and son and writes in many different genres and styles, however, he maintains that his heart can always be found in his children's stories and poetry.
Colin has sat on the committee of the Lancashire Dead Good Poets' Society. He writes reviews and blog posts for the award-winning website deadgoodpoets.blogspot.co.uk and altblackpool.co.uk as well as regular updates to his own blog. He has been instrumental in helping local poets into positions as writers in residence and seeks to help writers advance in their chosen field of art. His love of film, music, poetry and football infuse with his memories of childhood to create wonderful tales.

I would like to point out, once again; for the benefit of all; organisers and attendees; the importance of keeping adverts for events correct and up to date. I walked to Manchester from Leeds, (once again) in persuit of new audiences and new markets for my poetry; in early May. Only to find, when I got there, after an 18 hour, overnight forced march; that first of all; the venue had been wrongly named in the gig guide, as 'Lloyds Bar', rather than 'The Lloyd' public house; therfore unsearchable on line. Then when I finally found it; waited and waited until the manager finally turned up and told us (bar staff and myself) that the event had been postponed, to fit in with Chorlton Arts Festival. This is typical of Manchester, which at one time, had far more out of date, or incorrect ads, on the gig guide, than ones that were current and correct. I know the guide has been reformed and some faults fixed since then; so it's now fairly reliable. But please, if anyone finds any faults with the adverts report them so that they can be corrected. Not everyone has the time online to double check every event, especially if one is searching for multiple events at short notice. To make the point; I have to add that, following disappointment at the Lloyd, I walked the streets of Manchester in the rain; dozed off in doorways until morning light; then walked home again. 70 miles in 2 days; an amazing walk, but would have been much more so; and less punishing if the event had been advertised correctly.
