Storytelling in Performance: The first in a series of events in collaboration with the University of South Wales’ George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling, exploring what drives us to tell the particular stories we choose to tell. The performance by storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton will be followed by a discussion with the University of South Wales (USW)’s Principal Lecturer in Drama, Michael Carklin.
Step into a snow-swathed fairytale forest for a dark Scandinavian wonder tale...
A princess marries a bear, who comes to her bed each night as a man. She sets off on a quest through ice and snow, to climb the glass mountain and set the cursed bear free. Mysterious, romantic and funny, this is the perfect wintery romance, located within a fantastical star-lit universe, filled with stolen children, trolls, trickery, frost, firesides, and richly metaphorical transformation. Sally Pomme combines strange musical sounds, poetic and dramatic spoken word, songs and gestures to bring this fabulous fairytale to life. Sometimes you suffer for love – sometimes you suffer because of love.
Post-show discussion with Sally Pomme Clayton and Michael Carklin.
