The December event at The Works’ Canteen is on Tuesday next, 1st December , with guest poet Derrick D headlining another night of spoken word entertainment at the Black Country Living Museum.
Derrick is a Birmingham based poet and spoken word artist who moves between speech, rap, song and sound effects and whose enthusiasm and enjoyment of the spoken word shines through everything he does. He has performed solo with the likes of Afro Block, Soweto Kinch, Nurvrax 3, and American poetess, Ursula Rucker. With influences including Gil Scott-Heron and Tom Waits, Derrick has also fronted his own band ‘Derrick D And The Backbones’ since 2011. A long time radio presenter, Derrick is currently at Radio Sandwell.
MC for the evening is the Black Country Living Museum’s poet-in-residence Dave Reeves, accompanied by his ever-present squeezebox.
