Open Mic Event

Contact: bookerplays@yahoo.co.uk

Claire Booker hosts an evening of feisty, awe-inspiring poetry from three amazing guest poets, plus opportunities for open mic, as part of One Billion Rising.

SUE JOHNS is a Cornish poet who brings her post-punk, post-feminist, post-early-for-Christmas take on what it is to be a woman.
LISA KELLY’s finely observed poetry tackles both personal and social issues. She's a board member of Magma and her pamphlet ‘Bloodhound’ was published by Hearing Eye. AGNES MEADOWS has toured her poetry internationally, including twice in Iraq. She's a board member of the Poetry Book Society and runs Loose Muse, the longest running Women’s Writers’ Night in London.
CLAIRE BOOKER’s poetry has been widely published in literary magazines and her stage plays performed in America, Australia, Europe and the UK.

Plus there’ll be a chance to experience a heart-stopping collective poem about their lives performed by women refugees.

All profits from 'Speak it! Hear it!' will go to the charity ‘Women for Refugee Women’ which works to help empower women who have sought asylum in the UK.

Women and men are equally welcome to participate in the evening. Open mic will be limited to 2-3 minute slots (one long or two short poems max.). Please sign up for a slot at 7.45pm.

Tickets available at the door (£6 or £5 concession) and all profits go to charity. To book (no fee) go to www.breadandrosestheatre.co.uk/obr-poetry

Join us as we LISTEN! ACT! and RISE! to Demand Revolutionary Change for Women and Girl Survivors of Violence as part of the One Billion Rising Festival.
