WORD CLUB 13 will take place on Friday 26th February 2016, from 7.30 pm, at The Chemic Tavern, Leeds. Our headliners this month are Paul Sutherland, Rose Drew and David Cooke. We will be graced with the usual crew of ultra-talented open micers that any Literary event would be proud of too!
Paul Sutherland, Canadian-British poet/writer, arrived in the UK, 1973. He has ten collections, editing seven others. He’s founding editor of Dream Catcher a national-international journal in its 31st issue. He runs creative writing workshops and widely performs his poetry. He’s appeared in anthologies and journals. Spires and Minarets was published by Sunk Island Publishing and a full collection Journeying from Valley Press 2012 (see ww.valleypressuk.com for more info). He reverted to a Sufi Muslim in 2004 and two collections have followed, Poems on the Life of the Prophet Muhammad (saws) 2014 and A Sufi Novice in Shaykh Effendi’s Realms. He’s won Nassau Review (US) Poetry Prize and come 2nd in English Association Poetry Prize. A New and Selected Poems is due from Valley Press this year.
Rose Drew, from York via Miami, spends her days examining human skeletons and her nights hollaring poetry at any open mic she can find. Rose tends to write about sex, death, politics, religion and the occasional poem about love.
David Cooke won a Gregory Award in 1977 and has been widely published in the UK, Ireland and beyond. His most recent collection, A Murmuration, has just been published by Two Rivers Press. He is the founder and co-editor of The High Window Journal & Press.
