All welcome. Poets who come will have the chance to read as well, unless the number is too great, in which case there will be a ballot. Music from original and talented singer/songwriter Jessie Pie.
Lucky is Graham Buchan's third book. Previous commendations include "His images are sometimes laconic, sometimes breath-taking, always sharp enough to take your eyes out... so good you have to read them twice!" (Agnes Meadows for tall lighthouse). "I love the sardonic, gentle humour in this charming, sensual piece and the way the poet connects the (external) artistic and literary references to an intimate (personal) love affair, arguably blossoming in a hot summer night in Barcelona." A girl there,
intact but so dead she looked asleep,
her book still open.
Her watch fell away as they moved her
and was put back, respectfully, on the blanket.
I wanted to hug her parents and boyfriend,
and tell them,
‘I’m sure it was quick.’
