Toria Garbutt | jonnythefirth (live music) | Workshop participants
MIKE GARRY
Mike Garry was a librarian for 15 years before becoming a poet. Described by iconic designer Peter Saville as "a genius", Mike's work focuses on the city and its people; championing the under dog and finding beauty amongst the ugliness and triumph amongst tragedy.
He has performed his poetry since 1995 and has worked in USA, Hong Kong, throughout Europe and the UK, and is currently supporting John Cooper Clarke on his UK tour. He also regularly performs with bands, such as I Am Kloot, Badly Drawn Boy and The Fall.
His two books 'Mancunian Meander' and 'God Is A Manc' have received wide critical acclaim and are regularly read on TV and Radio. Most recently his BBC commissioned poem tribute to Anthony H Wilson has gone viral and seen him perform alongside New Order, Phillip Glass and many others in New York's Carnegie Hall.
"Mike Garry walks like a man and talks like a man and writes like a great Northern poet. That’s Northern as in centre of the universe and poet as in using words to go beyond words.”
Paul Morley, Writer, Broadcaster and Journalist.
TORIA GARBUTT
