Poet/musician Jimmy Andrex and friends perform "Cresties", a musical poem cycle around themes of love, identity, loss and exile based around the work of local artists with connections to Wakefield’s legendary Red Shed Readings. The piece has already featured to great critical acclaim on Leeds station elfm and the live premiere was performed at Wakefield Litfest (24th Sept. 2015) followed by a performance on the Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe 2015.
Writer Jimmy Andrex explains the origin of the title Cresties:
“It’s a local word used around Castleford, Featherstone and the Five Towns meaning a scruffy person, a loser. I’m interested in how ordinary people, often seen in popular myth as failures, actually cope heroically with all that life throws at them.”
Entry: £5, £3 concessions
Time: 7:30pm
