The power of language shines through in this yearly poetry showcase featuring some of the best slam poets around. Artists come together on a weekly basis for these judged poetry slams, and the top competitors from this year will come together for the Grand Slam at Town Hall. Featured poets in this year’s event are T Miller and Siaara Freeman.

Poets must perform all-original work, stay within a time limit, and refrain from using props or costumes. Highly entertaining, this diverse array of slammers and topics make this a can’t-miss competition. The winners of this all-ages show will represent the Seattle Poetry Slam, Inc. Team for a five-day competition in Atlanta, Georgia for the 2016 National Poetry Slam.

Featured Poets
NATASHA "T" MILLER is a three-time Women of the World Poetry Slam top five finalist. In 2012, she won the Kresge artist award and used her fellowship to produce the award-winning documentary “treasure; mapping a story of Detroit”. Natasha has been on four national slam teams; she’s starred in a national Sprite commercial, and started her publishing company "All I Wanna Say Publishing". Since then she has published two books "Dreams Of A Beginner" and "Coming out of Nowhere”: A social networking memoir about homosexuality, religion, and cyber bullying. Natasha believes her purpose is to be an agent for change, spread the message of forgiveness, empowerment, and equality like so many great leaders before her.

SIAARA FREEMAN is a touring artist from Cleveland, Ohio who uses poetry as an outlet for activism, but she actually prefers the term: friendly neighborhood hope dealer. Siaara speaks heavily on intersectionality, on what it means to be an urban, black, queer woman in America. Siaara is a Victim Of Violent Crime spokesperson and an advocate for mental health, especially but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder. She has been published in literary journals (Elementz Review, Chicago Lit Review, etc.), lectured in universities, interviewed by online magazines and blogs (For Harriet, Examiner.com, digitalpoet.net, etc), became the slam champion of the only two adult slam teams she has ever slammed for (Cleveland, Ohio and Writing Wrongs-Columbus Ohio) and was a 4 year Brave New Voices Participant. She spent the 2014 and 2015 summers participating in an all women's writers retreat called Pink Door, which improved both her poetry and her spirit. She has poems in an upcoming anthology “Hysteria” published by Lucky Bastard.
