There will be a feast of local language in a Mayday celebration of the spoken word when Billy Spakemon is the headline guest at The Works’ Canteen.
Concentrating on his work in his Black Country ‘Mutha Tung’, and ably supported by guitarist John Langford, he will bring his mix of storytelling, ballad and song to the popular monthly venue.
As usual the evening will be hosted by Dave Reeves, the museum’s poet-in-residence, who will also be celebrating the upcoming World Accordion Day with his squeezebox accompaniment of his own work.
There will also be an Open Mic spot with plenty of opportunity for other readers to take the floor.
With writing that ranges from comic verse to serious poetry, and with no limit to the styles of the guest poets and the regular performers, these evenings are always a varied, thought provoking night of words and music. Whether you want to take part and read your own work, or just listen to some great original writing, come along and join us in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the museum’s Rolfe Street Café.
