A presentation of poetry introduced by Helen Shay and delivered by several local poets on the theme of climate change, ranging from praise of the planet to satire on the stupidity that risks ruining it. For this event, a rise in emotional temperature above two degrees is predicted, as well-known bards mix with new voices to give poetic awareness to an issue on which we are all up against the clock. With humour and hope amongst the concern, this blend of poets from around York and beyond will explore problems and possible solutions in ways that resonate in our everyday lives. Poetry proves the most entertaining and convenient way to probe ‘an inconvenient truth’ to the tick-tock rhythm of time running out and which – like Captain Hook’s crocodile – stalks us all in our changing world.
