More Wreck

Two thoughts at the heart of our work: first, from an interview with Vahni Capildeo, her affirming the importance of “surprising, omnivorous readerly cravings…the writing mind demanding renewal;” and second, from a Gerard Manley Hopkins letter dated 1878, his want for his poetry to embody “more wreck and less discourse.”
We will detour away from the well-worn routines of the “workshop.” Rather than pausing to finish, or edit, our day will be devoted to generative bursts and improvisational drafts. Expect to encounter a catalytic array of contemporary poems, to play and to revel in the mess.
One-day workshop from 10:30am to 4:30pm. There will a lunch break and tea breaks during the day. Lunch is not provided. Students are welcome to bring their own, or to visit the local shops and cafes during the break.
