A Poem and a Pint

An evening of poetry and music featuring one of Ireland’s favourite poets Rita Ann Higgins. Rita Ann’s readings are legendary: raucous, anarchic, witty and sympathetic, her poems chronicling the lives of the Irish dispossessed in ways that are both provocative and heart-warming. The publication of her 11th book of poetry Tongulish by Bloodaxe last April to enthusiastic reviews justified once more her reputation as one of Ireland’s most intensively inventive and deliciously subversive poets. For the evening's music we welcome the young Cumbrian trumpeter David Griffiths whose playing at the Kendal Poetry Festival last June earned him rapturous applause. All this, plus the customary midwinter contributions by the poets who make up the Poem and a Pint committee and the legendary M/Cing of Ross Baxter, emerging enthusiastically once more from the wastes of Blawith, will create for us another unforgettable February evening's entertainment
