Spend the first day of this two-day workshop immersed in Abney Park Cemetery, before gathering a month later to workshop poems inspired by the visit.
We will spend the first day of this two-day workshop immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of Abney Park in Stoke Newington – a Victorian cemetery where public and private, poverty and privilege, life and death, nature and decay all converge. Originally laid out as an arboretum, Abney Park became a burial ground for Dissenters, the first fully nondenominational cemetery in Europe where anyone could be buried anywhere. You’ll then have a month to come up with your own original pieces before the second day, where we’ll gather at The Poetry School to workshop the poems inspired by the visit.
A two-day workshop running 10:30 – 16:30 on Saturday 20th May (Cemetery Day) and Saturday 10th June (Workshop Day).
