Readings by Rachel Bower, Angelina d’Roza and Pauline Plummer.
An exceptionally strong line-up of three brilliant and established women poets awaits you at the Bath this July – if you love poetry, don’t miss this. We have the much loved poet and poetry activist Rachel Bower (of Verse Matters fame), reading in her own right, the superb Angelina d’Roza, another mainstay of Sheffield’s poetic galaxy, and the versatile and adventurous Pauline Plummer, all the way from Newcastle.
Angelina d’Roza is a poet and reviewer from Sheffield, currently living in the Middle East. She’s poet in residence at Bank Street Arts and a shared reading facilitator for SHSC. Her collection, Envies the Birds, was published last year by Longbarrow Press.
Pauline Plummer, an Irish/Welsh mixture from Liverpool, has lived in the north east since the 80s where she brought up her family. She has three collections of poetry, most recently ‘Bint’, from Red Squirrel Press 2012 and a novella in verse ‘From Here to Timbuktu’ Smokestack Press 2012. She has given workshops and readings in many places, including Poetry Live, Troubadour, Poetry Ireland, Ucheldre – Anglesey, British Council Sierra Leone. She teaches Creative Writing for the Open University. She also has short stories published (Dancing with a Stranger, Red Squirrel Press 2015), and is working on a novel. She is an editor with Mudfog Press, a Teesside based small press.
Rachel Bower is a poet, critic and Mum to two fierce children. She is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds looking at the links between poets in Leeds and Nigeria in the 1950s and 60s. She is currently co-editing an anthology with Helen Mort (Verse Matters) due out from Valley Press in November 2017. Her academic book, Epistolarity and World Literature, 1980-2010 will be published in October 2017. Her poems have been published by Stand Magazine, BBC Radio, Now Then, Valley Press, Three Drops Press, etc, and she has had poems shortlisted for prizes, including the London Magazine Poetry Prize and the Plough Prize 2016. She is currently writing a collection of poems about pregnancy and birth. Rachel is also the founder of Verse Matters, a monthly feminist arts event in Sheffield.
As usual there will be a short but intense one poem per poet Open Mic – sign up in the break.
