Celebrating National Poetry Day with the launch of our project, Poster Poems, for Marsden Jazz Festival.
Selected from nearly 300 works submitted to our project we will be showcasing 25 of the best music themed poems around the village in shop windows, on pub walls and in cafes.
Join us for this wonderful free family event to enjoy poetry, music and to discover some amazing stories about our Pennine Poetry Village on a short guided tour. Shops and businesses will be open late.
There will also be a special exhibition of children's poems from Marsden Junior School at The Magic Box.
We are also delighted to announce that we will be launching our third and final poetry cafe with special guest, poet, host and tutor, Sarah L Dixon. Sarah will be Poet in Residence at A Month of Sundaes between 5 and 6pm. Bring along your Musical Marsden poems in preparation for the Poster Poems tour at 6pm where there will be opportunities to read aloud. Sundaes will have a permanent collection of poetry books for you to read while enjoying delicious coffee and ice cream.
At 6pm David Coldwell and members of the Poetry Village group will lead a short tour around the Posters. Come along to discover some of the places that have inspired famous poems, listen to stories of times gone by and discover locations used in TV and Hollywood productions. Look out for Poetry Pebbles along the way - secret stones painted with hints of poems. There will be opportunity to read your own poems during the walk at two locations. Family friendly and dogs on leads welcome.
