Join multi-award-winning poet Simon Armitage in conversation with Martine Croxall. Discover how geography has fuelled Simon’s interest in the poetry of place, as he takes us on a journey through the landscapes that have inspired his work.
Simon Armitage was born in Marsden, West Yorkshire. In addition to writing poetry he is a lyricist and writes extensively for theatre, television and radio. A geography graduate from the University of Portsmouth, he worked as a Probation Offi cer before becoming a full-time writer.
Armitage’s interest in poetry that exists beyond the page is potrayed in commissions such as Stanza Stones. This project culminated in a set of poems inspired by the Pennine watershed, which were then carved onto stones across the area.
He is regarded as one of our greatest living poets.
