Maximise your looking at Poetry Cafe exhibition You are an ocean and I am a living thing with a writing workshop.
Thom Kofoed’s exhibition explores how women have taken a radical approach to language, storytelling and poetic expression through music, visual art, comedy, writing and dance, and the workshop will celebrate female poets from all artistic disciplines.
With writer John Murray and Poetry Society Education Officer Alice Watson, you will draw inspiration from your favourite female poets and create work which explores their impact on your lives and poetic practice. Bring along an image of your poetic idol (think Dolly Parton, Tiffany Haddish or Sylvia Plath) and use it to build poems which reflect a little of their power, creativity and passion.
You’ll use Thom’s work and a range of other sources to spark our imagination. There may even be an impromptu Beyoncé dance class to get the work going.
After the first hour, there will be a 30-minute poetry surgery so please bring along other poems you are working on for everyone to workshop together.
Alice and John have run workshops together for arts organisations across London and the South East, including Shakespeare’s Globe and the V&A.
Meet at 11am in the Poetry Cafe to look at the exhibition, and then move upstairs to the Poetry Studio for the workshop.
(The Poetry Studio is up one flight of stairs, and we regret that there is no lift access.)
Entry: Full price: £12, Concession: £7, Poetry Society Members: £7, Young Poets Network £7
Time: 11:00am (11:00am-1:00pm)
