Poetry and Human Rights Discussion with Shami Chak

This event on 4th May 2018 at 13:00 has past.

Contact: ncenla@ncl.ac.uk

Taking as its starting point the themes of war, poverty and racism identified by Martin Luther King in his 1967 speech in Newcastle, and the focus of the poetry anthology, The Mighty Stream: Poems in Celebration of Martin Luther King ed. Carolyn Forché and Jackie Kay (2017), this discussion will range freely across the issues and opportunities raised by bringing poetry and politics into dialogue, and poetry’s role in this politically troubled time.
