Welcome to In Town Tonight, the reading series where The Poetry Society invites a visiting poet to perform alongside a local guest writer of their choice.
Hera Lindsay Bird chose Joe Dunthorne to be her cross-continental partner for tonight’s event, in what will be a dynamic meeting of poetic minds.
Hera Lindsay Bird is a writer from Wellington. Her debut poetry collection Hera Lindsay Bird won the 2017 Jessie McKay prize for best first book. She is also the recipient of the 2011 Adam Prize, the 2017 Sarah Broom Prize and the 2017 recipient of an Arts Foundation New Generation Award. Her second chapbook Pamper Me To Hell & Back was published with the Poetry Business in 2018.
Joe Dunthorne’s first novel, Submarine, was translated into sixteen languages and adapted for film by Richard Ayoade. His second, Wild Abandon, won the 2012 Encore Award. His latest is The Adulterants. A collection of his poems will be published by Faber & Faber next year.
We’ll be gathering at 7pm for drinks and chats, and the readings will begin at 7.30pm.
In association with The Poetry Business. Hera has one of the Laureate’s Choice pamphlets for 2018 – she’ll be dedicating copies for you tonight.
