All welcome.
Come and read your own, or a favourite, poem at Marsden Jazz Festival, which hosts our fabled Marsden Write Out Loud open-mic poetry jam, now in its ninth year.
"Gets better each year!"
"I don't like poetry but that was fantastic."
"Great atmosphere"
"Fantastic variety of poems/poets… to make us laugh, cry and join in."
"Brilliant experience and feel inspired to write a poem!"
"The range of poets and ages ... was an eye and ear-opener... the young, the older and plenty my age. Men, women, boys, girls, the experienced, the learners, the confident, the nervous, the proud, the modest, the loud, the whisperers, the gentle, the threatening. The quality of the work was the most startling thing – all extremely good, some outstanding and yet more simply astonishing."
(Journalist Judy Gordon)
The Railway is a great, friendly pub and was once Simon Armitage's local. The pubs and cafés of Marsden have shelves of poetry books we have put there as part of our Marsden The Poetry Village initiative.
One of the friendliest places to read your own poems, even for the first time.
Entry: Free
Time: 11:00am (Doors open 10.30.)
