An evening of poetry and music in conjunction with Dalton Litfest in the Community Centre on Nelson Street in Dalton-in-Furness. The event features Manchester poet David Borrott, noted for his fine attention to detail and his ability to look afresh at the varied facets of the world we inhabit and at the idiosyncrasies of the inhabitants themselves. He will read from his pamphlet Porthole ‘a debut full of poems fresh and rich, poems you will want to read over and over’, whose poems of fierce wonder, often with undertones of a dark humour, become for the reader their portholes into other lives. They take us from Lowryesque visions of his adopted metropolis of Manchester to domestic scenes such as emptying the dishwasher and, in ‘Southern Cross’ to the disorientation of a sudden awakening on a long haul flight, where the plane becomes: a corridor of stale air/ swollen with the helium of sleep, and he will share with us poems that will be part of his first full length collection.
David Borrott will be supported by well known local poets and open mic readings – sign up at the door for available slots. The music after the interval will be provided by the South Lakes’ fantastic fourpiece Equal Measures and the evening’s entertainment will be presented by M/C Caroline Gilfillan. BYOB.
Price: £6.00 / £5.00
Time: 7:30am (Doors open 7,00)
