Jill Abram presents Stablemates: Conversation & poetry with Mark Doty, Andrew McMillan and Fiona Benson of Jonathan Cape
Mark Doty was the first American to win the TS Eliot prize, and has been shortlisted twice since, most recently for Deep Lane. Prizes in the USA include the National Book Award and the National Book Critics’ Circle Award His writing, in poetry and memoir, became some of the definitive literature of the Aids era. Andrew McMillan’s debut Physical was the first poetry collection to win The Guardian First Book Award. It also won a Somerset Maugham Award, an Eric Gregory Award, the Fenton Aldeburgh Prize and a Northern Writers' award. It was shortlisted for many other prizes and has been translated into French and Norwegian. Playtime was published in August.
Fiona Benson’s pamphlet was the first in the Faber New Poets series. Bright Travellers won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize and the Seamus Heaney Centre Prize and was shortlisted for both TS Eliot and Forward Prizes. Ruins was shortlisted this year for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem. Vertigo & Ghost will be published in January.
