For one night only, Wednesday 14th November, Chelping is coming to you from the bar in the Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds. It's still Chelping but like Matt Abbott, we've taken it on tour!
This event is presented as part of The Leeds Library's 250th Anniversary celebrations. Curated by Matt Abbott, one of the UK's leading spoken word artists, the night will include open mic slots followed by sets from Cecilia Knapp and Vicky Foster.
CECILIA KNAPP
Cecilia Knapp is a writer, performer, theatre maker and poet. Over the last few years Cecilia has headlined at some of the UK's top poetry nights. She's performed at festivals including Bestival, Secret Garden Party and Wilderness Festival. She's also taken work to the Edinburgh Festival Fringeas well as internationally and shared work at the Cheltenham Literature Festival where she was guest curator in 2016.
She was an artist in residence at Roundhouse, where she spent a year on their board as a young trustee. More recently she's been artist in residence at Pimlico Library, creating work with the community. Her poetry has been played on XFM, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Radio 1Xtra. She was recently commissioned by BBC iPlayer and the Tate Britain. Cecilia delivered a TEDx talk at University of Warwick on the theme of creativity and healing.
Her debut collection of poetry will be published in 2018 by Burning Eye Books.
Cecilia has been described as "mesmerising" and "totally gripping." Her writing has been described as "light as a birds feather" (Lyn Gardner) and focuses on the poetry in everyday life, experience and human interaction. She believes writing and sharing stories to be transformative and uniting.
