Nymphs & Thugs present #LIVEwire at Seven Arts Leeds!
We launched this quarterly spoken word night in February to huge acclaim, and our final event of the year promises to be just as special. Join host Matt Abbott in the café/bar at Seven for an evening of accessible and engaging spoken word poetry.
Matt has been programming nationally-established acts which have so far included Maria Ferguson, Toria Garbutt, Cecilia Knapp, Louise Fazackerley and Nafeesa Hamid. We also have an open mic section, available to six poets in total.

••••••••••
IONA LEE
Iona Lee is a poet, artist and performer from East Lothian. Now based in Glasgow, Iona is an illustration student at The Glasgow School of Art (yes, the one that burned down). Iona fell in to spoken word at the tender age of 17 as a way of getting in to pubs underage, under the watchful eye of Salena Godden; later winning the title of Scottish Slam Champion. Iona fronts a band called Acolyte and her debut pamphlet was published with Polygon Press in 2018.
SARAH CRUTWELL
Sarah Crutwell is a spoken word poet and creative events organiser based in Stockton-on-Tees. Her work aims to address 'the things we lower our voices to talk about'.
Her poetry takes on issues such as mental health, sex, loneliness, politics, ingrained sexism and a woman’s right to chose.
MATT ABBOTT
Having recently completed a 22-date UK theatre tour with his début one-man show #TwoLittleDucks, Matt Abbott is a rising star on the UK's flourishing spoken word scene.
Matt received rave reviews both on the tour and at Edinburgh Festival Fringe last summer, and is a regular at Seven.
OPEN MIC
6 slots limited to 5 minutes each. These are issued on a first come, first served basis and can only be confirmed by emailing Matt on eyup@mattabbottpoet.com. Thank you.
