Young Identity are Manchester’s finest young spoken word performers, working in partnership with Contact for the last 10 years. Join us for a boisterous night of poetry and music.
One Mic Stand is centered around a Poetry Slam, in which 10 poets are given only 3 minutes each to wow the audience with their lyrical mastery and charismatic delivery to battle it out to gain the top spot and win the grand prize of £50!
A hotbed of upcoming talent, this edition features performance artist, educator, playwright, director and personal trainer Kat François and South Manchester-based singer/song-writer Rowan Lark.
Kat François is a BBC and World poetry slam champion. Her play Raising Lazarus, on Caribbean soldiers in WW1, tours internationally. Kat teaches dance, poetry, drama and performance skills and contributes to BBC Radio’s Front Row and Woman’s Hour.
Rowan Lark writes Art Pop music with world influences, especially Spanish flavours from growing up in Granada. Her band is made up of some incredible local musicians and her songwriting ranges from tackling family relationships to critique on modern society and concept pieces. This diversity is reflected in her wide range of stylistic influences from La Paquera de Jerez to Laura Mvula, Pink Floyd to Stevie Nicks.
