P.M.Oliver:
Devotion, Real and Simulated: the religious poetry of George Herbert and John Donne
The first editions of the verse of George Herbert and John Donne appeared in the same year, but that is arguably where the similarities between the two end.
In this illustrated talk P. M. Oliver, whose second book on Donne came out last May, will highlight some of the differences between the two poets’ religious writing and suggest why, four centuries on, it remains so popular with readers.
