A day of poetry and music in the grounds of a beautiful old house in Kent will bring together seven of the most exciting contemporary poets with seven of the most literate songwriters on the indie scene.

STEPHANIE BURT, celebrated poet, critic, and professor of poetry at Harvard makes a rare UK appearance. From the UK, critically acclaimed poet JACK UNDERWOOD, will read from his most recent collection Happiness (Faber Poetry) as well as brand new poetry.

Alongside them, CALVIN JOHNSON, founder of K records (so crucial in the development of the lo-fi punk scene in the USA), and lead singer of Beat Happening, will perform his lyrically extravagant new songs, solo with guitar.

Also playing quietly enough for you to hear the words, there are indie songwriters EMMA KUPA, FRESCHARD and THE CATENARY WIRES.

And amongst the newer poets, there’s PETE GREEN, AMY KEY and (AMY) KINSMAN, all of whom are enjoying critical acclaim for their brilliant recent pamphlets and collections.

WORDS AND MUSIC AT THE SKEP will be a celebration of lyrical ambition and artistic independence.
