200 years ago, a nightingale ended its 4,000-mile journey from Africa and nested in the garden of Wentworth Place, providing the inspiration for one of the most famous poems in the English language. This talk by Dr Bethan Roberts will consider the literary and natural history of Keats’s ‘Ode to a Nightingale’, exploring the weave of nature and culture which underpins Keats’s ode, across place, scientific fact, symbolism and myth.
