This summer the internationally acclaimed American-Ukrainian-Russian-Jewish poet Ilya Kaminsky, deaf since the age of 4, is reading from his latest book, Deaf Republic, in Cambridge and London and A Poem and a Pint has managed to persuade him to make a side trip to Greenodd to share his work with us at the Village Hall on 29th June. Deaf Republic, an ‘astonishing parable in poems’ asks us, ‘What is silence?’ A love story, an elegy, and an urgent plea, the collection confronts our time's vicious atrocities and our collective silence in the face of them.' Ilya Kaminsky will be supported by Amy Clouds, a multitalented musician, best known for making wild music and her Windermere impersonation, expect the unexpected, the traditional open mic, and the engaging M/Cing of one of Ulverston’s best loved poets, Caroline Gilfillan.
