Presenting all aspects of the verse world,
from ballads to blank verse and sonnets to slams
Sun 17 Nov 16:30
From ballads to blank verse and sonnets to slam battles, this event will explore how we take poetry from the page and bring it to life through performance and discussion. Curated by leading poetry society Live Canon, each week offers a platform to guests from different parts of the verse world to come together and share their work in an exciting and enlightening way.
with Glyn Maxwell and Mona Arshi
Glyn Maxwell is a poet, playwright, novelist, librettist and critic. Collections include The Breakage, Hide Now, and Pluto, all shortlisted for either the Forward or T. S. Eliot Prizes, and The Nerve, which won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. His Selected Poems, One Thousand Nights and Counting, was published on both sides of the Atlantic in 2011. On Poetry, his guidebook for the general reader was labelled ‘a modern classic’ by The Spectator and The Guardian’s Adam Newey described it as ‘the best book about poetry I’ve ever read.’
Mona Arshi’s début collection of poems, Small Hands won the Forward Collection for best poetry collection in 2015 and her second collection Dear Big Gods has just been published. “Mona Arshi’s poems are purely lyrical in the best sense… I am in awe of this work.” London Grip
