Contact: poetryfest@wirralpoetryfestival.org.uk

Wirral Poetry Festival brings another of its popular poetry picnics which combine a visit to a notable Wirral landmark and a time to write and share poetry.
Meet local poet Paul Harris to spend the day at Merseyside’s oldest standing building and gain an insight, during our guided tour, of the development of Birkenhead Priory, its importance to the spiritual and economic development of Wirral and its influence of the history of our region. Hear how the Priory started and maintained the first Ferries to cross the Mersey, how it flourished and was eventually dissolved by Henry Ⅷ. We will also see and learn about Birkenhead’s first parish church, St Mary’s (1821). Its Tower and Spire are still preserved on the site in memorial to the 99 brave souls lost in the 1939 disaster aboard the Laird’s build submarine HMS Thetis. There will be time in the day along with the expert guided tour to enjoy your picnic and to write and share poetry inspired by your visit..
Tickets include the guided tour, hot drinks). Two free places are available for local residents (postcode CH41). Please email poetryfest@wirralpoetryfestival.org.uk to arrange.

Meet at Birkenhead Priory. Bring your own picnic. Hot Drinks will available from the café.
