An Evening with Julia Copus

This event on 18th August 2021 at 19:30 has past.

Open Mic Event

Contact: h.catterall@wordsworth.org.uk

Our 2021 contemporary poetry reading series, “Go to the poets, they will speak to thee”, is curated and hosted by poet Kim Moore. We will be listening to what poets have to say about our turbulent times, and how poetry can cross borders to challenge, delight and inspire us. Each event in the series is part reading, part open mic – and the theme of the open mic changes every month!

In his preface to the 1802 Lyrical Ballads, Wordsworth writes “I have wished to keep my Reader in the company of flesh and blood, persuaded that by so doing I shall interest him”. Our guest poet this month is Julia Copus, whose latest collection Girlhood (Faber, 2019) contains a powerful sequence which explores the therapeutic relationship between the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan and Marguerite Pantaine, who attempted to murder the actor Huguette Duflos. Our theme for the open mic this month is a poem about a person – whether this is an imaginary or historical character, from fairy tale, myth or drawing inspiration from your friends and family! Email host Kim Moore at wordsworthreadingseries@outlook.com for a spot (limited places available).
