The Swallows Returned Earlier this Summer is a live poetry reading and conversation between the Mexican poet Ekiwah Adler-Belendez and the media artist Juan delGado based in London.
This art project is a creative response to the uncertain times we are currently living. The two artists based in both sides of the Atlantic Ocean embarked at the beginning of the summer on a virtual journey exchanging images and poems. In their reflections, issues such as mobility, migration, disability and identity punctuate their artistic epistolary style collaboration, which is inspired by the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō.
The two artists based on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean exchange haikus and photographs, using Instagram as another house for Art following the long migration of swallows from Mexico to the U.K. The beauty of those birds give them a wonderful excuse to reflect on mobility, migration, disability and the creative power of friendship mirrored in nature. Their virtual pilgrimage is also a tribute to the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō. The event will be mostly in English but Haikus will also be read in Spanish.
