Verse vs Verse Poetry Slam

Whether you love writing poetry or just listening to it, you'll enjoy Macclesfield’s friendly poetry slam!

Everyone is welcome - We've had first-time poets beating former poet laureates! We welcome both slam poetry and traditional written verse, whether it's heart-breaking or hilarious. In the past, our contestants have covered subjects ranging from pub toilets to politics, from bondage to the Big Issue!

All competing poets are invited to perform as much (or as little) original material as they wish in a 3-minute round, after which they are anonymously scored by judges selected from the audience. At the end of each round, the lowest-scoring poets are knocked out after which each remaining poet gets another 3 minutes, and so on. The last poet standing walks away with the coveted Verse vs Verse trophy!

NOTE: Every other event is a standard, non-competitive open-mic open to both poetry and prose. Poets are advised to bring along enough material for three or four 3-minute rounds, poems performed at previous slams are not permitted.
