Our contemporary poetry reading series ‘Go to the poets, they will speak to thee’ returns in 2022, curated and hosted by poet Kim Moore. We will be listening to what poets have to say about our turbulent times, and how poetry can cross borders to challenge, delight and inspire us. Each event in the series is part reading, part open mic – and the theme of the open mic changes every month!
It is strange that William Wordsworth – a poet whose life was full of travel and a certain restlessness should have come to represent and embody the importance of place in literature. The academic Robin Jarvis describes him as ‘remorselessly addicted’ to travel. This addiction led him to France and to the French Revolution which had an indelible impact on his writing.
This month our guest poet is Eric Ngalle Charles, whose debut collection Homelands is recently published by Seren. Homelands is a book that has travel at its heart in more ways than one – we are invited to join the poet on a journey between languages, between the poet’s childhood home of Cameroon, and their chosen home in Wales, from safety to danger and back again.
Our open mic theme this month is ‘Journeys’ to be interpreted widely!
