The Gloucestershire Poets- a talk with Fiona Sampson at Cheltenham Poetry Festival.
Which historic Gloucestershire poets will still be remembered in a hundred year's time? Are there any ‘typical’ qualities of poems written in this county?
By the early 1970's a number of hugely influential poets were living and writing in Gloucestershire. From
Laurie Lee and Frances Horovitz to U.A. Fanthorpe and Michael Horovitz, they changed the course of British poetry, and their influence is still felt here today.
The festival has commissioned leading poet and writer Fiona Sampson - who spent some of her childhood in Gloucestershire and is the author of Beyond the Lyric: A map of contemporary British poetry and Two-Way Mirror: The life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning - to define the ‘Gloucestershire School': its range, its aims, and its heirs.
Don't miss this seminal literary event which will reveal the poets of the newly formed Gloucestershire school.
Be there when literary history is made.
