An Evening with Hannah Hodgson

This event on 21st September 2022 at 19:30 has past.

Open Mic Event

Website: https://wordsworth.org.uk/blog/events/an-evening-with-hannah-hodgson/

Our contemporary poetry reading series ‘Go to the poets, they will speak to thee’ is running throughout 2022, curated and hosted by poet Kim Moore. We will be listening to what poets have to say about our turbulent times, and how poetry can cross borders to challenge, delight and inspire us. Each event in the series is part reading, part open mic – and the theme of the open mic changes every month!

In ‘Lines Written Above Tintern Abbey’ William Wordsworth wrote ‘…we are laid asleep / in body, and become a living soul’. This division between the body and the ‘living soul’ is explored with formal dexterity and a clear-eyed intensity in the work of our guest poet Hannah Hodgson. Hannah’s debut collection 163 Days (Seren, 2022) examines the clash between the personal and the institutional, telling the story of a young person’s lengthy hospital stay.

Our open mic theme this month is the ‘body’ – please feel free to interpret this theme widely!

Open mic slots are limited and must be booked in advance. Each open mic poem should be no longer than two minutes. Email Kim Moore at wordsworthreadingseries@outlook.com for a spot.

Price: £5.00 / £0.00. (Limited free tickets available.)
