We’re back at the Chemic Tavern for the second edition of Chemistry! Last time out we had a fantastic night with two brilliant headliners, a full house, and a frankly ridiculous number of open mic poets, so let’s have more of the same this time!

Our September headliners are Liverpool poet Jenny Robb, who made a name for herself doing online open mics in the lockdown days, and who has recently published her first collection; and local legend Jimmy Andrex, who will be showcasing material from his new book and album ‘9 Displacement Activities’. Keep following the page for more details about our headliners in the run-up to the event.

We’ve introduced a theme based on the elements of the periodic table, so this time it’s element number 2, which is He for Helium. The theme is entirely optional, and we’re not expecting loads of Helium poems, but if you’ve got something related to He or Helium, you might want to bring it along. Or perhaps thinking about He and Helium might inspire you to write something new.

If you want to sign up for the open mic, just ask host Joe Williams for a slot when you arrive. We’ll do our best to fit everyone in. We welcome everyone from first-timers to veteran performers, so if you want to give it a go, please do. Please stick to the time limit of 3 minutes (which includes any introductions and other waffle!).

Entry is on a pay-as-you-feel basis. If you don’t feel able to pay anything, that’s fine. All donations go to the guest poets, who will also have books for sale (and CDs, in Jimmy’s case).

TRANSPORT: The Chemic is about 1.5 miles from the centre of Leeds. The nearest train station is Burley Park. Buses number 51 and 52 stop about 150m away, and there are very frequent buses from the city centre up nearby Woodhouse Lane, where you should get off just before the Hyde Park pub.

PARKING: There is limited parking at the front and rear of the Chemic, and plenty of street parking available nearby.

ACCESS: There are several steps to the front entrance, but only one step at the back door. Level access via an additional entrance can be arranged on request. If you need this or any extra assistance, please let us know here, or talk to Joe or one of the venue staff.
