Allographic has three forms of live event - our open mic with featured guests every last Sunday of the month; “Allographic presents...”, a loose series of events with bigger names from the spoken word scene, and a burgeoning set of workshops for aspirant poets, storytellers, and other writers and performers.
“Writing Your Monsters” – using folklore to write poetry about what's important to you led by Tom Juniper (free entry, donations taken)
Stories and legends have been used by humans process difficult ideas, inexplicable events and strong emotions since the first gatherings around the fire. Through discussion, exercises and by sharing our favourite myths and folktales with each other, this workshop will help you incorporate some myth and magic into your poetry practice.
Number of Spaces: 12
Suitable for: age 15-18, adults, wheelchair users, visually impaired people, people with hearing difficulties, novice writers, intermediate writers, experienced writers, novice performers, intermediate performers, experienced performers, VI and HI (depends on tech and individual needs). Automated subtitles provided if required.
Probably unsuitable for: age 15 and under
Materials: A favourite myth, legend, folktale, fairytale, urban myth or campfire story.
Entry is free but you will have an opportunity to pay what you think the workshop was worth afterwards. All the money goes to the workshop leader.

Tom Juniper is a performance poet from Sheffield, UK. They have been published sporadically and have performed repeatedly.
They write about folklore, gender and neurodivergence, among other things. Tom’s new book Monstrous is a selection of poems in which the monsters of various folklore traditions get a chance to speak for themselves.
Tom also hosts Nine Lives Poetry, a monthly-ish spoken word night in Sheffield.
