Open Mic Event

It’s a new year, and Chemistry is back at the Chemic Tavern to start 2023 in style with another edition of Chemistry, featuring another two brilliant headliners and the usual Box of Mystery open mic.
This month’s headliners are no strangers to the Chemic. Gill Connors introduced countless poets to the Chemic stage as one of the co-hosts of Word Club, and now she’s back with her recent collection ‘A Small Goodbye at Dawn’. Oz Hardwick is also a familiar sight on the local scene, not least due to being Professor of Creative Writing at Leeds Trinity University, and will be reading from his new collection ‘A Census of Preconceptions’.
The event are themed on the elements of the periodic table, so this time it’s element number 4, which is Be for Beryllium. The theme is entirely optional, and we’re not expecting loads of Beryllium poems, but if you’ve got something related to Be or Beryllium, you might want to bring it along. Or perhaps thinking about Be and Beryllium might inspire you to write something new.
If you want to sign up for the open mic, just ask host Joe Williams for a slot when you arrive. We’ll do our best to fit everyone in. We welcome everyone from first-timers to veteran performers, so if you want to give it a go, please do. Please stick to the time limit of 3 minutes (which includes any introductions and other waffle!).
Entry is on a pay-as-you-feel basis. If you don’t feel able to pay anything, that’s fine. All donations go to the guest poets, who will also have books for sale.
Doors at 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start. I hope you can join us!
