Established by Talking Pen's Steve Urwin in 2009, Poetry Jam is one of the longest running monthly spoken word events in the north east and takes place at Waddington Street Centre in Durham City on the first Thursday of every month (except January). Three guest poets are booked to perform each month and there are three approx 15-minute, no-frills, quick-fire open floor sections where anyone can get up and read a poem. Many poets say they love the venue for the warm reception and intimate setting, a great place to try out new material. We try to provide first feature set opportunities for rising poets and give headline closing sets to more established performers and those promoting new books. The event takes place in a small cafe lounge area. Light refreshments, no alcohol, no microphone. Performance poetry, literary 'page' poetry and everything inbetween. Get on down to Waddy and soak up the lyrical atmosphere.
Time: 7:00pm (Doors 7.00pm, event starts 7.30pm)
