Five Minutes with Andrew Motion
There is an interesting interview with the ex Poet Laureate on the BBC website.

I like his words on the acoustic value of poetry, he must be a fan of WOL.

Five minutes in the presence of Andrew Motion(less) and you're still awake. Gosh, you must have stamina...

There is an idea that does the rounds that he is a bore because of his accent and background (not saying that is why Steven doesn't like him- making my own point). It is nothing more than reverse snobbery.
He's a brilliant poet!

Nick. Thanks for posting this up. Just watched it through with a non-judgemental hat on and enjoyed it. Steven, I suggest you do the same. A great little insight into Andrew Motion as man and as post laureate poet. Some interesting questions and answers. Not boring at all.
P.S. If you are after a non-judgemental hat, they are still available in stripes in the Debenhams sale for £9.95 and from other major millinery retailers.

I'm with Stephen's assessment of Motion. I once saw him at the Ilkley Literature Festival. Oh dear it was an audience of about 15. It was difficult to leave without being noticed. It was a test of endurance. Saw Simon Armitage at the same event. What a difference.

IMO, as good a poet as Mr Motion is, he has never learned how to effectively read aloud his own work, or perhaps any poem. Adept readers can make his poetry come alive. Vocal performance is a disciplined skill. How can he not know that? And do something about it.
